KARACHI, Feb 27: Charkh Bareen the five- year-old thoroughbred horse owned by Yahya Shahid stormed to victory in the concluding event, lowering the colours of The Champion Strides at the Winter Race Meeting held on Thursday at the Karachi Race Course.
Partnered by jockey Sher Mohammad and carrying a crushing weight of nine stones seven pounds on his back, Charakh Bareen never gave the supporters any anxious moments as he collared The Champion Strides while entering the straight.
Another impressive winner was Syed Taufiq Kamal’s bay horse Knight Fighter, scoring his second victory in a row, while coming in with a tremendous burst to overtake front runner Mera Jugnoo a few yards away from the winning post.
Knight Fighter had the services of riding boy Khalid Nawaz in the saddle.
The opening race was picked up Jango beating Sunday Silence by one and half lengths, while the next race was bagged by Reasonable just nosing out Noor-un-Nisa, Striker and Afzaal Prince near the winning post. Great Bakht scored a pillar to post victory in the third, humbling High Speed and Black Magic.
Lady’s Love Partnered by Ghulam Shabbir II, had an arm chair victory in the sixth event, chased all the way over the six furlongs by Jugni.
The next race meeting will be held on Monday.
