KARACHI, Feb 25: A pharmacy-owner was shot dead in Malir extension on Tuesday.
Police said two unknown youths came to the Sindh Medical Store near Saudabad Chowrangi in a motorcycle. As they tried to enter the shop, the owner of the store, Syed Fahim Ahmed Qadri, aged 55, tried to put up resistance and raised alarm.
The bandits pumped two bullets into his head and chest and escaped. The victim, who was a member of a religious organization, died on the spot, police said.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem.
TRADER KILLED: A trader of electronic goods was killed by armed men at his residence in Defence Housing Authority late Monday night.
Police said the bandits entered a bungalow in Khayaban-i- Sahar and throttled to death 65-year-old Azam Sultan and later collected cash and other valuables from the house and fled.
The TPO Clifton, Munir Shaikh, told Dawn that it seemed to be an act of robbery during which a murder was committed. However, it was not clear whether the victim had put up resistance to the bandits as there was no eyewitness; the victim was alone. The body was shifted to the JPMC for postmortem.
ROAD ACCIDENTS: Three persons died in separate traffic accidents on Tuesday.
Police said that an unidentified woman died in a road accident in Soldier Bazaar. The woman, in her mid 20s, was crossing the road when a long-route bus (P-0278) knocked her down. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. The bus driver escaped. The body was shifted to the Edhi Morgue for identification after postmortem examination.
A young man died in a hit-and-run accident on the Superhighway. Ahmed Khan, aged 24, was crossing the road near Al-Asif Square when an unknown bus hit him. He died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Another man was knocked down by an unknown vehicle in Sachal police limits. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Mohammad Hashim, died on the spot and the body was shifted to the JPMC.
An unidentified young man was crushed beneath a locomotive in Al-Falah while he was crossing the rail tracks. The body was shifted to the JPMC.
DOCTOR LOOTED: Armed men looted a doctor at his clinic in Saddar in the presence of a number of patients.
According to reports, two men entered the clinic of Dr Zany K. Hussein in Ghausia Mahal, Mansfield Street, and told the compounder that they needed treatment for high fever.
They went inside the doctor’s room and took out pistols and asked the doctor to hand over the cash. The doctor told them that he never kept the money with him. The bandits then forced the compounder to surrender the cash and escaped after grabbing the money.
Robbers entered the house of Ilyas in Rizvia Society and took the inmates hostage. They collected cash, ornaments and also took away a motorcycle (KAF-8377).
A gang of armed men entered a house in Yaseenabad Block-9 and looted cash, ornaments and prize bonds after making the inmates hostage.
