HYDERABAD, Nov 28: The activists of Sindh People’s Youth Organisation (SPYO) and the SPSF (SB) observed a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club here on Wednesday in protest against the alleged torture of prisoners by the authorities of Hyderabad central jail and the shifting of Shaheed Bhutto group leader Ameer Bux Umrani to Landhi jail in Karachi.
Talking to newsmen, Shaheed Bhutto group leaders, Shujat Hussain, Ibrahim Umrani and Sattar Khoso said that Ameer Bux Umrani was shifted to Landhi jail in flagrant violation of the court orders as it had directed that Umrani should be admitted to the hospital as he was seriously ill.
They said that the condition of Ameer Bux Umrani had further deteriorated in Landhi jail.
They said that the search operation launched by the superintendent and deputy superintendent of central jail, Hyderabad, was just a ploy to shift Umrani and others to Landhi jail in the darkness of night.
They said that the jail administration had committed contempt of court by shifting Umrani to Landhi jail.
They maintained that if any narcotics, TV sets and mobile telephones were recovered then this was due to the inefficiency of the jail superintendent and rampant corruption among the jail staff.
They warned that if the superintendent and the deputy superintendent did not mend their ways then, “we will start an unending war.”
