LAHORE, Feb 23: Proposals to maintain law and order during Muharram were discussed at a meeting on Sunday.
Religious scholars belonging to all schools of thought also attended the meeting presided over by Punjab Inspector-General of Police Masud Shah in his office.
It was decided that a liaison would be ensured among all members of the peace committees and districts administration to keep a vigil on the miscreants. The anti-state elements, likely to disrupt law and order, would be dealt with an iron hand.
Every possible cooperation would be extended to transform the peace committees into effective, dynamic and regular bodies.
IGP Masud Shah said that due importance would be given to the suggestions and proposals given by the members of the peace committees.
Members of the Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen and peace committees, including Alhaj Haider Ali Mirza, Syed Shakir Ali Rizvi, Maulana Syed Ahmad Shah Kazmi, Mufti Abdul Shakoor Rizvi, Syed Waqarul Husnain Naqvi, Syed Nisarullah Ijtihadi, Malik Muhammad Bashir, Syed Arshad Abbas Bukhari, Syed Muhammad Ghazal Mehdi Jafri and Maj Syed Shabahat Abbas Jafri (retired) were prominent among the participants in the meeting.
