BULAWAYO, Feb 22: World Cup players Andy Flower and Henry Olonga were called to a meeting with Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) officials on Saturday to discuss their continuing on-field protest against Robert Mugabe’s government.

The pair looked angry and deflated after the one-hour meeting at the team hotel. Both refused to comment.

ZCU chief Vince Hogg said: “I think we have covered all the issues and done what we needed to do.”

Asked if the dispute had been resolved, Hogg replied: “It’s hard to say but I hope so.”

Flower and Olonga made a statement mourning the “death of democracy in our beloved Zimbabwe” before the team’s opening tie on Feb 10.—Reuters
