HYDERABAD, Feb 22: The Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association has criticized the plan for second convocation of the university, scheduled to be held on March 11.

The executive council of the association, at a meeting held here on Thursday, observed that the position holders and students, graduating between 1987 to 1995, were being discriminated against as the convocation was being organized for the students of few batches.

It observed that the last date for receipt of applications from the candidates was set at Feb 28, which left very little time to get medals and degrees ready for distribution.

The meeting pointed out that date of the convocation coincided with the last three days of mourning of Muharram.

The meeting appealed to the SAU chancellor/Sindh governor to postpone the convocation to a suitable date in June.

It demanded of the vice chancellor and controller of examinations to avoid wasteful expenditure by curtailing the planned extravaganza and make the convocation a self-financed event.

The meeting also expressed concern over denial of admission to deserving students, particularly postgraduate students, to the second term on the pretext of late applications. It pointed out that there was a provision to admit such students on payment of late fees.
