MULTAN, Feb 18: The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has urged people from all walks of life to observe February 28 (Friday) as a ‘Peace Day’ to join the world against war.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, PML-N parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, regretted that no one was taking initiative to channelize anti-war sentiments of the people.

He said the people were looking towards the political leaders to step forward and present the Pakistani point of view on impending war on Iraq. Therefore, he said, the PML-N had decided to provide the people a platform on Friday to come out on roads for peace rallies and marches.

He said a coordination committee had been constituted to contact heads of political parties, civil society organizations, traders, trade unions and farmers’ organizations to invite them to the peace rallies.

He added there would be no PML-N flags, posters and slogans during the peace rallies because the party just wanted to break the ice on the anti-war front. He said the way people all over the world had voted for peace to be the ‘real world order’ was remarkable, showing that the people were united for a cause irrespective of their caste, creed and geographical location. “We salute the world conscience,” he added.
