HYDERABAD, Nov 27: No under trial prisoner was brought to court as search operation in the central prison here continued on the second consecutive day on Tuesday.

Only UTPs required to be present in the Anti Terrorism and Sindh High Court were produced.

The jail officials claimed that more narcotics were found from different barracks as the scope of search widened.

They claimed that two more juvenile offenders were recovered from the barracks of adult inmates. They however did not identify the UTPs who were keeping the juvenile offenders in their cells.

The officials claimed that the searches would continue on a daily basis.

According to a source the prison administration claimed to have recovered four kilograms of some white powder but it was not sure what it was.

Sources claimed that the jail superintendent Malik Altaf Awan and deputy superintendent Aijaz Hyder received threat calls from activists of different nationalist organizations.

The deputy superintendent confirmed that he had received threat calls from callers who identified themselves as activist of Jeay Sindh Students Federation and Pakistan People’s Party (SB).

Sources confirmed that for the time being the appearance in courts of the UTPs including political prisoners would remain suspended. It can not be ruled out that the higher prison authorities decide to hold their trials in the jail.

So far no case has been lodged in the wake of Monday’s recovery of narcotics and other banned items.

The prison sources claimed that higher officials had decided to keep the alleged trouble makers in Karachi central jail and also take up the matter with their concerned courts.

“If they are sent back to Hyderabad they would again start creating hurdles and the bad environment would again prevail in the jail,” an official added.

Following a similar operation last year in September more than 60 prisoners including the trouble making prisoners were sent to different prisons in Sindh i.e. Jacobabad, Larkana, Sukkur etc.

However they had to be brought back to the Hyderabad jail as their case were pending trial here in different courts.
