LAHORE, Feb 10: The commission constituted by the Punjab government to review establishment of boards of governors in educational institutions will begin recording statements of stakeholders on Feb 15.

Commission head Justice Ijaz Nisar (retired) had also asked all those concerned to send their suggestions to the commission member, social welfare secretary, regarding the issue by Feb 20.

Talking to Dawn on Monday, retired Justice Nisar said the commission had already received suggestions from various educationists and would complete the work within a month.

The government had finalized the names of five stakeholders to record their statements before the commission. Of them, JAC chairman Nazim Hasnain, Muhammad Arif and Majid Wazir would record their statements on 15th.

In addition to the disputed BoGs matter, the commission will also examine the affairs and requirements of the three universities — Government College University Faisalabad, Government College University Sargodha and University of Education Lahore — established last year.

The commission comprises former Government College Lahore Principal Abdul Majeed Awan, Civil Services Academy Management Adviser Dr Sarfraz Khwaja, Advisor to Islamic Education and Cultural Development Dr Khairat Ibn-i-Rasa, Lahore University Vice-Chancellor MH Qazi, LUMS Vice-Chancellor Dr Zahoorul Hassan, Institute of Education and Research Director Dr Munawar S Mirza, Journalist Mak Lodhi and the social welfare secretary.

Meanwhile, the government has failed to publish the health commission’s report regarding the constitution of BoGs in autonomous health institutions.

Commission head Justice Mujadid Mirza (retired) had submitted the report to Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Jan 31.

Sources said the commission had apparently recommended abolition of BoGs, which brought the government on a dilemma whether to implement the commission’s recommendations or manipulate it according to its needs.
