PESHAWAR, Feb 10: The Peshawar police killed a hardened criminal after a brief encounter at Chandan Ghari area of Badhber here on Sunday.
“No cop or any other person was injured in the encounter,” SSP (Operations) Khalid Habib told a press conference at Police Headquarters here.
He said that Nawaz alias Nawazay, son of Khaiwa Gul, a resident of Frontier Region, Peshawar, was wanted by the city police in five cases of car-lifting, robbery and kidnapping for ransom.
Nawaz was also wanted by the Mardan, Nowshera and Charsadda district police in heinous crime cases, the SSP added.
On Saturday night, the police was tipped off about the presence of the alleged criminal in Chandan Ghari. The police formed a raiding party and went to the area in the morning. Seeing the police party, Nawaz opened fire with a Kalashnikov. But after a brief encounter Nawaz was shot dead, Khalid Habib maintained.
The police also recovered a Kalashnikov, five hand-grenades and 90 rounds of ammunition.
The SSP said that the deceased’s brother, Israr, who was also involved in cases of identical nature, had already been arrested by the Punjab police. Kakay, mother of the deceased and Israr’s wife were also wanted by the police in several cases, but they were hiding somewhere in the tribal area.
KILLED: Two drivers of passenger vans were killed during two separate incidents in the city suburbs, police sources said on Sunday.
One Hameed Gul, son of Faqir Gul, a resident of Omerzai (Charsadda) was killed by unknown car-snatchers in the wee hours of Sunday on Charsadda Road near Kochyan Gulbela.
The deceased’s brother-in-law, Shah Faisal, told Daudzai police that Hameed Gul had a private van. Some unknown persons hired the deceased’s van from Charsadda, but when they reached near Kochyan Gulbela the passengers tried to snatch the van. As he put up resistance, they killed Hameed and escaped.
In another incident, some unknown persons killed driver of a passenger van, Faizullah, a resident of Hangu district, at Kohat bus stand here on Saturday night.
