KARACHI, Feb 10: The Sindh Assembly session, requisitioned by the People’s Party Parliamentarians, has been summoned on Feb 22.
Talking to Dawn from his native village, Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah said that the agenda had been finalized in the light of the opposition’s points.
He held out the assurance that legislators would be accorded full opportunity to articulate their points of view on the subjects mentioned in the agenda.
On Feb 8, the Leader of the Opposition, Nisar Khuhro, had submitted an application, signed by 57 MPAs, calling for the requisition session of the assembly to discuss urgent matters of vital public importance. The requisition was filed under Article 54(3) read with article 127 of the Constitution.
Among the main topics to be raised by the opposition is a decision on the fate of Thal canal project, one of the most controversial projects launched by the government in Sindh. The opposition, in its agenda, has also enlisted the subject of the Centre’s alleged interference in the affairs of the provincial government and the administrations of recently introduced district governments.
Some other subjects are introduction of Sindhi language as compulsory subject in private schools, grant of total remission of all provincial taxes to Abadgars holding up to 25 acres of agricultural land, reconsideration and modification of Lyari Expressway and measures to stop exodus of fisherman community from Manchar lake area.
