HYDERABAD, Feb 10: The Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party has demanded of the government to ensure payment of sugarcane price of Rs43 per 40kg to growers, fixed by it.

The demand was made at the meeting of the STPP central committee, held here on Saturday.

The meeting expressed concern over continued water shortage, rampant unemployment, low prices of crops and tribal disputes in the province.

It expressed the opinion that patience of the Sindhi people had exhausted as their sovereignty was in danger.

The meeting observed that out of 17 provincial ministries, 12 most important ones were given to non-Sindhis and only 35 per cent ministries were given to the Sindhi-speaking MPAs.

It alleged that the Sindh governor had become a de-facto chief executive of the province.

The meeting decided to stage a rally from Regal Chowk to the Karachi Press Club on Feb 27 against the alleged excesses.

It also decided to commemorate the Motherland Day in Hyderabad on April 6.

In a resolution, the meeting opposed the plan to demolish Goth Wasand Khan and other villages in Karachi.

In another resolution, the meeting announced support to the struggle of Wapda employees’ union, Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, Lower Staff Union and teachers and called for acceptance of their demands.

The chairman of the party, Dr Qadir Magsi presided over the meeting.

SPLA: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has expressed concern over the possibility of removal of the present vice chancellor of the University of Sindh.

This was observed at an urgent meeting of the SPLA, presided over by Prof Liaquat Aziz, held here on Saturday.

The meeting alleged that some bureaucrats at the Governor House were trying to remove Mazharul Haq Siddiqui from the post of the vice chancellor of the university.

The meeting said that names of some disreputed officials were being proposed for the same post and inquiries were being conducted by the National Accountability Bureau against them.

Defending the vice chancellor, they said that he was working hard to make the Sindh University a model institution.
