KARACHI, Feb 10: President Pervez Musharraf will inaugurate a 500-bed Fatima Hospital in the city on Feb 17.

The hospital is being set up by the Baqai Medical University, said Dr Fareeduddin Baqai. The President will also be the cheif guest at the fourth convocation of the university.

He said the university has set up its two campuses at Syria and Fujeria, respectively, which would start operating by middle of 2003. Ministers of health, science and technology of Syria, Maldives and Fujeria will also attend the convocation.

He said 600 literacy centres would be set up under to provide basic education and health care services in rural areas.

“The welfare projects include up-gradation of primary school at Gharo to secondary school and provision of health-care services to the town. To provide self-employment opportunities, cottage industries would be established.”—PPI
