Gas export issue referred to Khaleda

DHAKA, Feb 10: Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is soon expected to rule on an experts’ report on the export of natural gas to India, a contentious issue that involves a high level of political sensitivity.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has submitted its proposal summing up the reports prepared by two national committees — one on assessment of the reserves and the other on utilisation of the gas resources.

The energy ministry’s report to the prime minister gives a pro-export direction, which the experts and economists earlier called a “limited export” option.
