South-south cooperation stressed

KARACHI, Feb 10: The leader of 15-member Malaysian trade delegation, Soong Siew Hoong, on Monday stressed upon the need to work for south-south cooperation.

During their visit to Export Promotion Bureau’s (EPB) display centre at FTC building the delegation members appreciated the export potential of Pakistan and the wide range and quality of products.

Hoong said that the world media has been portraying negative image of Pakistan and they are amazed to see the reality which is contrary to what he had been reading about Pakistan.

Soong Siew Hoong is president of the Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCIM) which is the apex body of Chinese businessmen in Malaysia. It is the most important trade body of Malaysia having 90,000 members, 85 per cent of whom are small and medium enterprises.

The 15-member delegation belong to construction, electrical and electronic equipment, automobiles, seafood, canned food, ready-made garments, air-pollution control, steel, and medicines.

EPB vice-chairman Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi explained to the members of the delegation about trade potential of Pakistan in general and with reference to being gateway to Afghanistan and the Central Asian Republics in particular.
