SHIKARPUR, Feb 9: Sindh minister for fisheries and livestock Manzoor Panhwar has expressed the opinion that Jirga system should be given legal cover.

Talking to journalists here on Sunday at the HMB Institute of Science and Technology, he said that he believed that Jirgas provided early and cheap justice to the people.

The minister admitted that the People’s Party Parliamentarians enjoyed an enormous support of the masses and added that he still believed in the leadership of Benazir Bhutto.

He said that he and his friends, belonging to the Patriots faction, had joined the government to resolve the problems of their voters.

To a question, he said that the members of the the Patriots faction were still members of the PPP and they had not decided to leave it.

Mr Panhwar said that the Sindh government wanted to provide job opportunities to the people therefore the ban on recruitment in the government departments would be lifted very soon.

Meanwhile, MNA Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Jatoi has said he is determined to settle tribal disputes in the district.

Talking to journalists here on Saturday, he said the dispute between some Mahar and Jatoi tribesmen was not a tribal dispute.

He said it was a feudal dispute which had developed over a piece of agricultural land and some other matters.

He expressed the hope members of both the tribes would comply with the decision of a Jirga that settled the dispute.
