ISLAMABAD, Feb 5: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a Rs29 million project for the computerization and networking of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore.
According to a statement issued in Islamabad, the project will be completed in a period of two years.
Under the project, the entire working of the university will be automated. The facility of online research will be provided to faculty members and students.
The UVAS will be linked with various research institutes, universities, government departments and stakeholders. The project is expected to increase the research output of the institution.
Established as an institute to train the veterinary professionals, the institute was upgraded as a university in June, 2002.
The UVAS was unable to modernize its systems and work in an efficient manner owing to the absence of information technology related facilities. Computer-ization and networking of the UVAS will help it to develop as a nucleus for information on livestock, poultry and fisheries sectors to benefit the teachers, researchers, students, other institutions and stockholders.
