ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration has made fool-proof security arrangements for all the events to be held on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day in the capital.
The security arrangements were finalized at a meeting presided over by chief commissioner Mir Laiq Shah here on Tuesday.
The deputy commissioner, Tariq Mahmood Khan, informed the meeting that a solidarity walk would be arranged at parade ground, in which people from all walks of life would take part.
The walk will start from PSO Petrol Pump at Jinnah Avenue at 10am and conclude at the parade ground.
Speaking on the occasion, additional superintendent of police Khalid Khattak said strict security arrangements had been made for all the solidarity day events in the capital.
The meeting was also attended by the director (administration), Ch Mohammad Azam, AIG of police Rao Mohammad Iqbal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Tariq Javaid Malik, AIG, Special Branch, Raja Nasir Nawaz, DSP/security and traffic Raja Munir Ahmed.
Lok Virsa: A Kashmiri artisans-at-work programme has been organized at Lok Virsa to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir.
The state minister for culture, Rais Munir Ahmad, will inaugurate the one-day programme. He has directed the Lok Virsa to focus on the cultural aspect of Kashmir struggle to sensitize the international community towards the righteousness of the Kashmir cause.
The Kashmiri artisans, who are internationally known for excellence in embroidery, miniature painting, paper-mache and wood carving and metal work as well as weaving of namdas and gabbas, will demonstrate their skill at the artisans-at-work exhibition.
Book-stalls will also be set up on the occasion and the people from development sector will educate the visitors about abuse of human rights.
The minority community will perform a play at the open-air theatre.
Our Staff Reporter from Rawalpindi Adds: Like other parts of the country, Solidarity Day will be observed in Rawalpindi with renewal of commitment to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir in their indigenous freedom struggle.
The day has been declared a public holiday. Rallies, human chains and solidarity walks have been arranged in keeping with the spirit of the day.
In schools and colleges, seminars, symposia, declamation contests, painting and photo exhibitions will be held. The students will make speeches highlighting the importance of the day and the Kashmir movement.
Two rallies have been arranged in this connection. The first solidarity walk, to be led by District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani, will start from Fawara Chowk at 10.30 and after passing through various routes will culminate at Liaquat Bagh.
The second rally will also start from Committee Chowk and terminate at Liaquat Bagh. The rally will be led by District Naib Nazim Raja Javed Akhlas and Tehsil Naib Nazim Sajjad Khan.
Colourful banners and posters inscribed with slogans have also been displayed at different places on Murree Road, at intersections and other routes.
Though educational institutions will remain closed, students will take part in declamation contests to be held at Postgraduate College for Girls, Satellite Town, Government Asghar Mall College, Government Shimla Girls High School and Government Denny’s High School.
Similar contests will also be organised in other tehsils. The Rawalpindi Arts Council has arranged a painting and photo exhibition at its art gallery.
Similarly, a documentary movie will also be screened at the Arts Council at 5 pm. Different private associations and civil society organisations have also planned to organise tableaus, national songs, dramas and cultural shows at the arts gallery.
