MIRPURKHAS, Feb 4: Three MNAs of Mirpurkhas have expressed grave concern on Tuesday over the issuance of orders regarding installation

of two direct outlets in the Jamrao and Mithrao canals, which originate from the Nara canal and provide water to lower Sindh. They termed it an interference in the working of the Sindh Irrigation Drainage Authority.

Talking to newsmen at the press club on Tuesday, MNA Syed Qurban Ali Shah, said that he along with Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani (MNA) and Nawab Yousuf Talpur (MNA) met with the director, Nara Canal Area Water Board, and apprised him about the permission given to some landlords for installation of direct outlets in the Jamrao and Mithrao canals.

They demanded of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, the prime minister, the Sindh chief minister, the governor of Sindh, and other higher authorities to take notice of the illegal act and save a huge agricultural area of the district from becoming barren.

Mr Qurban said that he with Mr Aftab and Mr Yousuf informed the director, Nara Canal Area Water Board, that resentment prevailed among the people.

They said that without obtaining permission from the board, no Sindh minister or any other government official was authorized to allow permission for a direct outlet from the canals.

GIRL KIDNAPPED: Three armed men abducted a girl, Saira, from the Wagreji village, Kot Ghulam Mohammad Taluka, on Tuesday.

CONTRACT: A local government contractor on Monday expressed resentment over the award of the contract for collecting contract fees at the Mirpurkhas bus terminal.

Speaking at a press conference, the contractor, Israr Baloch, said that instead of awarding the contract to him — the highest bidder — the contract was awarded to another contractor, Najeebur Rehman.
