HYDERABAD, Nov 26: The teachers of Hyderabad and other adjoining towns boycotted classes and locked up the schools here on Monday in protest against the test for increment of B.Ed and M.Ed degree holders.

The leaders of various teachers’ associations went around all the schools to ensure that schools remained closed. Those schools, which were opened were forced shut by the leaders of teachers and the students were sent home. The teachers wore black arm bands.

SEA: The Sindh Employees Alliance at an urgent meeting held here on Monday resolved to observe strike throughout the interior of Sindh on Nov 28 and 29 in protest against the manhandling of teachers by the personnel of law enforcement agencies in Hyderabad and Sukkur on Sunday.

The meeting, which was presided over by Professor Liaquat Aziz, was attended by the office-bearers of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, Government Secondary Teachers Association, Primary Teachers Association, lower staff and other organisations.

The meeting demanded that the action should be taken against those officials who had misbehaved with and manhandled the teachers in Sukkur and Hyderabad.

The meeting decided that all the educational institutions and offices will remain close on Nov 28 and 29 and the teachers will boycott all academic and co-academic activities.

The meeting demanded of the Sindh Governor to remove the education minister and the education secretary due to their negative policies, as the educational system in the province was being destroyed.

The meeting warned that unless the anti-education and anti-teachers policies were withdrawn, the unrest among the teachers and government employees cannot be eliminated.
