SIALKOT, Feb 1: An additional district and sessions judge of Sialkot has convicted a woman and her alleged lover of murder.
Judge Jawadul Hasan awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment with Rs180,000 fine to Najma Bibi and death sentence with a Rs50,000 fine to Shahbaz.
According to the prosecution, Najma Bibi had on Sept 5, 1999, killed her husband Manga with the help of her alleged lover Shahbaz in Kotli Loharan (East).
In another case, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmad has awarded death sentences with Rs50,000 fine to Amjad Pervaiz for killing his cousin Abid Hussain.
BAR’s OATH-TAKING: Justice Naeemullah Khan Serwani of the Lahore High Court has stressed the need for further strengthening the working relationship between the Bar and the bench for the provision of speedy justice to the poor and needy people at their doorstep.
He was speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the Daska Bar Association’s newly-elected office-bearers at Daska City on Saturday.
Justice Serwani asked the judges and lawyers to perform their duties with devotion and dedication.
Later, Justice Sherwani administered oath to Muhammad Aslam Ghuman (president), Muhammad Asif Bajwa (general secretary), Chaudhry Ejaz (vice-president), Aftab ahmad Mirza (joint secretary), Muhammad Afzal Mughal (auditor), Muhammad Tariq Butt (library secretary), Muhammad Iqbal (finance secretary) and the members of the executive committee.
INDIAN FIRING: The Indian border security forces continued on Saturday firing on villages in Sialkot working boundary’s Chhumb Joriyan, Bajwat, Chaprar and Zafarwal-Sharkargarh-Narowal sectors.
According to the official sources, the firing damaged a few empty cattle-sheds.
ASSURANCE: Punjab Minister for Education Mian Imran Masood has assured a delegation of MPAs that 1,066 male and female PTC teachers would be reinstated in February this year.
The teachers were terminated from their service in 1999 by the education department’s Sialkot authorities on the grounds that their appointments were made on political basis and in violation of the merit policy.
MPAs Chaudhry Azeem Noori Ghuman, Chaudhry Ansar Iqbal Baryar, Chaudhry Mumtaz Ali, Chaudhry Khush Akhtar Subhani and Chaudhry Armughan Subhani constituted the delegation.
