MULTAN, April 17: The election tribunal of Lahore High Court (Multan bench) allowed on Wednesday PML-N candidate Sheikh Waqas Akram to contest elections from NA-89 seat.

The returning officer of Jhang had rejected Akram’s nomination papers after his A-level certificate was declared fake. He was elected from NA-89 (Jhang-IV) and a voter from the same constituency had challenged his candidacy.

The petitioner alleged that Waqas Akram had fake degrees and could not contest the elections. He pleaded the court to disqualify Mr Akram.

Now Sheikh Waqas Akram will contest elections against Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat chief Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi on NA-89 seat.

Mr Akram had contested the 2008 general election on the PML-Q ticket and defeated Maulana Ludhianvi.—Staff Correspondent
