QUETTA: Former Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani on Saturday decided not to contest the upcoming general elections in the country.

“I would remain in politics but I would not become part of assembly,” he told reporters. Raisani said he did not submit his nomination papers deliberately.

The former Chief Minister also expressed concern over what he called “irrelevant” questions by Returning Officers. “In such this situation I cannot become part of the legislature,” he added.

Nawab Raisani, who is also a strong tribal chieftain, stated that the people of his constituency have always supported and voted for him. “People cannot be distanced from me,” he said.

The former chief minister was elected as an MPA from Mastung in the 2008 general elections. However, he has not submitted his nomination papers in Mastung this time around.
