NICL case: SHC grants Fahim 10 days protective bail

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday approved protective bail for Pakistan Peoples party senior leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim, a day after an anti-corruption court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the former commerce minister in a case relating to a multi-million-rupee land scam.

The SHC approved ten days of protective bail for the former minister, and ordered him to submit Rs 500,000 as guarantee.

The senior PPP leader, along with a former commerce secretary and four others, are accused of involvement in embezzlement of funds in the purchase of land for National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) in violation of procurement rules in August 2009.

On Monday, a judge of the special federal anti-corruption court-II had issued non-bailalbe arrest warrants for Fahim, former secretary of commerce Suleman Ghani, two directors of NICL Amin Qasim Dada and Javed Syed, and Khalid Anwar and Amir Hussian. The court had also directed the FIA to arrest the accused and produce them in court by April 12.
