THATTA, March 29: Head of Islami Tehreek Pakistan (ITP) and a central leader of the Shia Ulema Council, Allama Sajid Hussain Naqvi, said on Friday that Shia candidates would contest elections from the platform of ITP, which was seeking an electoral alliance and seat-to-seat adjustment with a number of political parties.

Addressing a press conference before attending “Imam Hussain Conference” here at Shah-i-Najaf Imambargah, Allama Naqvi said that he and other like-minded leaders had tried their best to revive the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal but their efforts proved futile and the MMA did not exist anywhere today.

It should be the topmost priority of the interim government to restore peace and establish writ of law in order to hold general elections in a congenial atmosphere and ensure fairness and transparency in the process, he said.

He said the nation was confident that coordinated efforts by the Election Commission of Pakistan and the interim government would bear fruit and elections would be fair and impartial this time.

Allama Naqvi saw ‘local as well as foreign powers’ behind growing acts of terrorism across the country and said nobody’s life and property were safe.

Allama Naqvi was accompanied by Allama Baqar Naqvi, Allama Nadir Abbas and local leaders of Shia Ulema Council.
