KARACHI: Members of civil society, the artist community and architects gathered outside the Karachi Press Club on Thursday to protest against the killing of renowned social worker Parween Rahman who was shot dead by gunmen in the Orangi Town area on Wednesday evening.

They were holding placards on which condemnatory lines against the brutal murder were written. They also chanted slogans such as ‘land mafia murdabad’ and ‘dahshat gardi murdabad’. One of the placards had a quote from the late Ms Rahman which read: “We know our system is corrupt, but one day we will fix it.”

Despite the fact that the social media was abuzz with the news of her death and hundreds had expressed their intention to be at the press club for the demonstration, the number of protesters was not very high.
