PESHAWAR, Jan 25: An Ethiopian national was found dead in mysterious condition at a guest house in the University Town locality, here on Saturday morning.

Sources told Dawn that Mr Gibrael Piaga was an Ethiopian national from Addis Ababa and was working as an engineer in Raxy construction company. He came to Peshawar from Kabul on Jan 21 with Mohammad Gul Sahibzada, business development manager of the company, and rented a room in China Palace guest house.

He was scheduled to leave for Dubai on Friday morning but missed the flight. He again confirmed the reservation for Saturday morning flight, the sources said.

A waiter at the guest house, Mohammad Arshad, said Mr Paiga had told to wake him up at 7am.

The guest house management twice made wakeup calls in the morning but he did not receive the phone.

At 8am, the guest house management opened his room with duplicate key, but found Piaga’s body hanging on the hook of an almirah, Arshad said.

The noose around Piaga was tied with a muffler — very difficult for anyone to hang himself on an almirah hook, sources maintained.

Mohammad Gul Sahibzada said Piaga had some domestic problem and he might have committed suicide due to that reason.

ENCOUNTER: The city police shot dead an alleged member of a group of kidnappers and arrested three of his accomplices following an “encounter” in village Ladei Akhund Mohammad, a city suburb, early Saturday morning.

During a press conference at the Police Headquarters, Cantt SP Khurshed Khan said after receiving information about the presence of the group in village Ladei Akhund Mohammad, the police raided the village where the accused opened fire on the police party.

The police retaliated, and in the ensuing encounter, Ziyarat Gul alias Sartaj alias Javed, was killed and Zairullah, Saeedullah and Fazlullah arrested. None of the policemen was hurt in the incident, the SP added.

He said Ziyarat Gul was a member of the group of kidnappers, who kidnapped one Ismail Yousuf, son of Yousaf Ali, about three weeks ago.

The police recovered a Kalashnikov from the deceased.

HASHISH SEIZED: Gulbahar police have seized 26kg of hashish and arrested two persons, Khalid Pervez and Fida Hussain, both residents of Mardan.

The two were going back to Mardan in a van and when the police stopped it for search, 26kg of Hashish were recovered from the possession of the two, police said.
