Work on Marrir Chowk stopped

RAWALPINDI: After the rain, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Wednesday stopped National Logistic Cell (NLC) from working on Marrir Hassan Chowk road expansion project to avoid any mishap.

According to the plan, the construction company had to close Benazir Bhutto Road from Liaquat Bagh to Saddar for a day from late Wednesday night to Thursday night for drilling and filling cement.  However, the continued rain disturbed the schedule.

On February 22, due to rain heavy hydraulic machine overturned, which created problems for general traffic at the main square and also for the civic body to dismantle the machine and arranged new one for the work.

When contacted, RDA Director Engineering department Asghar Warriach told Dawn that the work will start after clearance of the weather because the RDA did not want to go through the previous experience.

He said that the pile work would take more than 30 to 36 hours and the RDA had planned to close Benazir Bhutto Roads portion from Laiquat Bagh to Saddar during the work to avoid any untoward incident.

He said that the construction work would likely to start in the night so it would complete by next afternoon.

The traffic police will divert the traffic from Liaquat Bagh to Saddar on alternate route of Tipu Road and Rawal Road till the completion of the construction work. — A Reporter
