My aim in life

Many people have no definite aim in life. They move ahead without any particular destination in mind. One should have a specific purpose in life. Those who want success first determine their goal, then they thoroughly analyse their circumstances, their aptitude and capacity. My aim is neither wealth nor fame. I wish to serve my country in the best possible way and that’s why I want to become a doctor and serve humanity. A doctor, if sincere with his profession, is respected everywhere. Therefore, my aim in life is to bring health and happiness to people’s lives, especially those who can’t afford medical treatment. Syeda Ovaesh, Karach

Insect eating plants

Insect eating plants by Dr S. Iftikhar Ahmed (February 16, 2013) was really an informative piece of writing. The article provided me with interesting knowledge about some very beautiful plants that exist in our universe. Sadaf Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, Kech

Belt up for life

This is with the reference to the article Belt up for life by Emaan Thaver (February 23, 2013). The writer has rightly described the importance of seat belt as it saves lives in case an accident happens and protects passengers from getting fatally injured. It is a well-known fact that injuries to passangers during accidents can be reduced if they use a seat belt, and particularly so in our country where so many accidents take place due to drivers’ negligence. I would like to advise you all to use seat belts while travelling by car whether you are driving or not — simply because life is precious! Nazish Rahim, Turbat

Anna and the locket

This is with reference to the story Anna and the locket by Natasha K. Jadoon (Feb 16, 2013). It was a very interesting story and as ghosts and supernatural beings are my favourite topics, this story grabbed my attention. The writer adopted a very innovative style to guide the readers that physical or emotional abuse of people under our command can cost us or our loved ones in future, so it is better to treat everyone with kindness. Sea pollution

Nearly 70 per cent of the earth’s surface is covered by water. Many people earn their livelihood by fishing from the sea. Moreover, seafood is also an important source of nutrition for people. Unfortunately, seawater is being badly polluted because of industrial wastes, and sea pollution has affected marine life to a great extent. What is more unfortunate is that the government has never given any attention to this issue! Industrial development has affected our beautiful coast in the worst possible ways. Therefore, I request the concerned authorities to save the sea from pollution. Feroza Irshad, Kech

For your own good

This is with reference to the article For your own good by Yasmin Elahi (YW, Feb 9, 2013). I agree with the writer that children complain about their parents asking them a lot of questions. If the parents won’t keep an eye on our activities and whereabouts, then who will? Our parents have every right to know what we do, whom we meet and make friends with and where we spend our time. They ask questions because they love us and want for us the best in life. Therefore, instead of getting annoyed, you must cooperate with your parents. Anmol Zakir Hussain, Mekran
