RAWALPINDI, Jan 23: Pakistan Customs gained an upper hand in their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy pre-quarterfinal against Wapda on Thursday, thanks to off-spinner Tabish Nawab who picked up six wickets.

By the close of second day’s play, Customs were 93 for three, enjoying an overall advantage of 122 runs after having dismissed Wapda for a low 183 in their first innings.

Wapda, who resumed at the overnight score of 44 for one, could not cope with the spin of Tabish who finished with economical figures of six for 48 off 25 overs, nine of which were maiden.

No batsman could impress much as Tabish played havoc with the ball to trigger the collapse which saw Wapda lose last five wickets for 35 runs.

When play ended, Customs’ skipper Aamir Bashir was closing in on his half century and was 44 not out while Azhar Shafiq was unbeaten on a patient 19.

Openers Kashif Siddique and Rawait Khan fell cheaply as did Naseem Khan.
