PARIS, March 5: Jamaica’s world 100 metres champion Yohan Blake is to get his bid to defend his crown later this year under way at the opening Diamond League meeting in Doha on May 10.

The 23-year-old, who took silver behind compatriot Usain Bolt in last year’s 100m Olympic final, said he was intending to run the fastest time yet recorded on the traditionally fast Qatari track.

Olusoji Fasuba holds the present record of 9.85seconds.

“I have heard talk of the fast track at Doha (...),” he said.  “I am presently the second fastest man in the world. My ambition is to become the best. I have to continue to work very hard for that. Anything is possible.”

Blake will defend his world crown in Moscow which runs from Aug 10 to 18.—AFP
