HYDERABAD, Jan 23: People living around Hali Road on Thursday staged a march and held demonstrations outside the DPO’s office, the local press club and the office of the Nazim, Latifabad taluka.
They were protesting against the murder of Ismail Gaddi and Mohammad Hanif Pathan, who were shot dead on Hali Road on Dec 30, 2002, as well as the inordinate delay by police in apprehending the culprits.
The demonstrations were organized by the Gaddi Association.
The protesters accused the police of protecting the killers of the deceased.
A delegation of five persons, including the mothers of Ismail and Hanif, met with the DPO, who assured that the accused would be arrested soon.
The relatives of the deceased threatened to commit self- immolation if the accused were not arrested within the next three days.
Later, the Nazim of Latifabad taluka, Abdul Jabbar Khan, also assured them regarding doing everything in his powers for the arrest of the accused.
PAT: The district president, Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT), Younisul Qadri, has said that due to the apathy of the elected representatives of the people, the historic city of Hyderabad had been ruined.
He said this while addressing party workers on Wednesday.
He said due to the destruction of sewerage lines, all the main roads of the city had been inundated with dirty water and garbage was being dumped in ever lane and street creating health hazards.
He said throughout the city the cart-pushers and rickshaw drivers were being forced to pay Rs5 for parking as a result of which the rickshaw drivers had increased their fares.
He said right from the Tilak Incline to the Koh-i-Noor Chowk and other places, “Bhatta” was being extorted in the name of “parking fees”.
Mr Qadri said that development works in the city had come to a halt and the roads had been destroyed due to accumulation of dirty water.
He said the elected representatives had failed to come upto the expectations of the people.
He demanded of the Sindh governor and the chief minister to initiate development works in this historic city and take notice of the recovery of “Bhatta” on the pretext of “parking fees”.
