HYDERABAD, Jan 23: The district coordination officer, Mir Hussain Ali, has directed the officers of the Employees’ Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) and the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution to facilitate the workers registered with them for grant of pension and healthcare cover.

He said this while presiding over a meeting of the representatives of both the departments at the Shahbaz Hall here on Thursday.

The DCO said that the problems faced by workers should be resolved and the EOBI officials should change their attitude, adding that pensioners should be paid on a regular basis.

He also urged the officers to improve the mode of collection of funds to provide maximum benefits to the workers.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Social Security department and the DCO directed the authorities to avoid misuse of official vehicles.

On this occasion, the director of the EOBI said that 45,860 factory workers had been registered and out of them 10,451 pensioners were being paid pension regularly.

The director informed that healthcare facilities were being provided to registered workers of various factories.

The meeting was attended, among others, by the chairman, SSI, Rana Mehmood, the EDO (community development), Hyderabad, Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi and the director, SSC, Hyderabad.

Students: Students of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences on Thursday boycotted classes and staged a sit-in at the Jamshoro campus to protest against the university administration.

The protest was organised by the Sindh People’s Students Federation (Shaheed Bhutto group).

Leaders of the protesters, including Mujeebur Rehman Sehto, Abbas Ali Shah and Ghulam Haider Khokhar, said that the university’s administration had failed to resolve the problems faced by the students.

They complained about the shortage of furniture in hostels, books and laboratory equipments, unhygienic conditions and erratic power supply.
