Four more bodies recovered

PESHAWAR, Feb 27: The death toll from the deadly bus accident reached to 26 as four more bodies of children were recovered by rescuers on Wednesday.

A spokesman of the Al-Khidmat Foundation Noor ul Wahid Jadoon said the operation for recovery of the bodies of the mini-bus accident continued for the sixth day.

He said Sania, 7, daughter of Nasrullah, one and a half year old Remsha, daughter of Mohammad Asif, Mehwish, 6, and Yasir, 10, son of Sarfaraz of Badho Samar Bagh, were recovered from the Bhudni canal.

However, bodies of Nimra, daughter of Mohammad Asif, and Zeeshan, son of Mohammad Gul, are yet to be recovered.

Mr Jadoon said divers of Pak Army, Al-Khidmat Foundation, Edhi Welfare Trust took part in the operation. All the required items were provided by the foundation volunteers to transport the bodies to their villages. —Bureau Report

Workshop for women

PESHAWAR, Feb 27: The Women Business Development Centre (WBDC) is arranging an 8-day-long workshop for skill development of women in cutting and stitching.

The organisers said on Wednesday the WBDC was providing training to women through a certified professional having experience of running a tailoring institute for 12 years.

The training has been divided into four levels depending on the nature and complexity of the art of cutting and stitching.

Each level is then spread through a two-day tenure to ensure effective learning. Since majority of beneficiaries are free on weekends, this workshop is designed to be delivered on weekends only.

Starting on February 16, the first two levels of the workshop have been successfully implemented at the display hall of WBDC.

A total of 15 participants have benefited from these sessions. Certificates will also be distributed at the closing ceremony of the workshop. —Bureau Report

Registration of foreigners

PESHAWAR, Feb 27: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has directed the police to register foreigners within three days of their arrival into the province.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the home and tribal affairs department said foreigners soon after arrival from other countries in the KP province in general and in Peshawar in particular shall register themselves with foreign registration offices (FRO) located within the offices of the district police officers across the province and the special branch of police in case of Peshawar.

The police have also been instructed to facilitate the foreign nationals who face problems in getting themselves registered at the FRO Peshawar cantonment where movement of foreigners is restricted.

The police were asked to set up camp offices near the Board of Intermediate and Secondary of Education on Jamrud Road or Hayatabad in Peshawar for registration of all foreigners especially Afghan nationals. —Bureau Report

Revenue official suspended

MARDAN, Feb 27: Deputy Commissioner Mardan Zaka Ullah Khatak on Wednesday suspended a patwari of Halqa Ghallah Dher area for not mobilising community elders to extend security to the polio team workers. A police constable, Said Mohammad, accompanying vaccinators was killed by unidentified armed men in Khao Ghalla Dher area on Tuesday.

The patwari Faqir Mohammad was suspended in a notification issued by the DC, which stated that the policeman was shot dead by unidentified militants owing to the negligence on part of the patwari Halqa Ghallah Dher union council.

The DC has appointed assistant commissioner Fazal Mohammad as enquiry officer to probe the matter and submit report within three days.

Media persons to hold rally

PESHAWAR, Feb 27: Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) and Peshawar Press Club (PPC) have condemned the killing of Malik Mumtaz Khan, correspondent for The News and Geo News, who was shot dead by unknown people in Miramshah on Wednesday.

They announced to hold a protest demonstration today (Thursday) against the cold-blooded murder.

In a joint press statement, presidents of KhUJ and PPC Arshad Aziz Malik and Nasir Hussain demanded of the government to order judicial inquiry into the incident and ensure safety of journalists.

They said Malik Mumtaz was the fourteenth journalist being killed in the tribal areas during last ten years, while a similar number of journalists had also been killed in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They said despite protests and demands of the journalist community no case of the killing of journalists could be registered let alone arrest of the killers and award of punishment to them. —Bureau Report

ANP party tickets

BUNER, Feb 27: The ANP office-bearers of four union councils in Gagra tehsil have urged the party leadership to award party tickets to MNA Istiqbal Khan and MPA Qaisar Wali Khan otherwise they threatened to revolt against the party ticket holders.

Addressing a press conference here at Buner Press Club on Wednesday, they said all the party workers of these union councils were supporting MNA Istibal Khan and MPA Qisar Wali Khan in the general elections for contesting from NA-28 and PK-78 seats, respectively.

The ANP workers included Anwar Sher Khan, Amir Zada Khan of Norezai union council, Sarwar Khan, Muhibur Rehman Comrade of Gagra union councils, Abdur Latief, Said Marood of Rega union council and Munshi Raza and Difarooz of Dewana Baba union council. —Correspondent

Kalash winter festival ends

CHITRAL, Feb 27: The winter festival of Kalash people ended in Bumburate valley on Tuesday after lasting for eight days.

The main event was the free style snow hockey in which twelve teams of different villages participated. The event was sponsored by Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP), which provided financial assistance to the organisers. The team of Brun village of Bumburate won the final match.

District programme manager of SRSP Tariq Ahmed told Dawn the play field was three kilometers long while each team consisted of 24 players. He said each team strikes the hand woven clothed ball with stick in the same direction and the team reaching the end point of the field first gets a score against the opponent team.

He said the winning team gets a hefty bull from the losing team, adding a large number of people braved chilly winds to watch the final event. —Correspondent
