HYDERABAD, Jan 22: The Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC), Karachi, has lodged an FIR against the SP, Motorways, Lahore, and former ASP Latifabad, Ahmed Yar Chohan, Inspector Rana Nasrullah of Hyderabad, Asad Raza, the brother of DSP Qamar Raza Jaskani, and others for deliberately using a stolen car and concealing facts.
According to the ACLC, Karachi, those who were booked included Ahmed Yar Chohan, the former ASP Latifabad and currently serving as the SP, Motorways, Lahore, Inspector Rana Nasrullah, and former SHO Hussainabad police station, Farah Bhatti, and others.
The FIR, the ACLC, Karachi, said was lodged after due approval had been obtained from the SSP, ACLC.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of SIP Abdul Qadir after a car was seized by a joint patrolling team of the ACLC, Hyderabad and Karachi, at Guddu Chowk, Hussainabad.
The case has been registered under sections 420, 468, 471, 474, 475, 412 (dishonestly receiving stolen property in the commission of a robbery) and 414 of the PPC (assisting in concealment of stolen property).
The car was being driven by Asad Raza, the brother of DSP Qamar Raza Jaskani, when it was seized. His friend, Anis Bandhani, was also accompanying him in the car.
Unidentified gunmen had snatched a car (ABH-930) from one Mohammad Anwar, the driver of a woman, who lodged an FIR at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station.
The car somehow reached one Farah Bhatti. She got it released from the court concerned by producing documents before the court.
The woman had also lodged an FIR at the Ferozabad police station, showing that her car had been snatched.
According to relevant records, she sold the car to Ahmed Yar Chohan, the former ASP, Latifabad, who subsequently sold it to Anees Bandhani.
The facts of the case came to the fore when ACLC officials seized the car from Anis Bandhani at the Guddu Chowk in Nov 2000 and got the examination of the car conducted. Before the examination of the car, the engine number of the car had been 3525415 and its chasis number 9002783. However, after examination the chasis number was found to be welded and punched. The engine number was found to be 3669986, the same which was mentioned by Anwar in crime No356/2000.
The ACLC, Karachi, said that the engine and chasis numbers had been tampered with and punched by a mechanic of Hyderabad city. Bandhani filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, accusing ACLC officials of harassing the petitioner.
The petitioner claimed that the ACLC officials had also deprived him of Rs16,000. During the course of hearing, the ACLC produced the relevant records of the case.
The court had also taken serious notice of the alleged high-handedness of the ACLC officials and directed the ACLC, Hyderabad, and Karachi to produce all records of the seized vehicle.
According to the ACLC, Inspector Rana Nasrullah had also fled near the Rajputana Hospital during the checking of the car (R-3245).
The car is said to be required in a case at the Civil Lines police station.
Police made an entry in the register regarding the inspector.
EDUCATION: The government will endeavour to improve the quality of education in both the public and private educational institutions in the province.
This was stated by the Sindh minister for education, Irfanullah Marwat, while speaking as the chief guest at the annual sports day of the Eden Grammar School in Qasimabad on Monday.
He said that donor agencies were reluctant to provide funds for the education department in view of the department’s deteriorating situation.
He stated that concerted efforts would have to be undertaken to bring the quality of education in public institutions at par with private institutions.
