Pakistan trounce India in Asian Junior Squash Championship

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan won the 16th Asian Junior Squash Championship on Sunday by trouncing India 2-0 in the final at Seoul, Korea.     

According to information received here, Pakistan's Bilal Zakir played a high-paced attacking game laced with some delicate drops every now and then to overwhelm India's Deepak Mishra in straight games 11-7, 11-6, 11-9.

However, the encounter between Ali Bokhari and Mahesh Mangaonkar was a tough physical clash with both players testing each other's resolve. It was touch and go as both players shared the first four games. In the fifth, it was neck and neck upto the halfway point before Ali reeled off winners to take the match and title. The result remained 11-5, 5-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7.

The match between Ammad Fareed and Kush Kumar was withdrawn. Earlier, Pakistan had defeat hosts Korea 2-1 in the semi-finals, thanks to Ali Bokhari and Bilal Zakir who won their respective matches.

Ammad Fareed, however had lost his match. India had defeated Hong Kong 2-1 in the second semi-final to meet Pakistan in the finals. Pakistan girls' team featuring for the first time in the event won one out of their three matches against Sri Lanka. However, they lost their fixtures to Hong Kong and Malaysia.
