Pir Mazhar clarifies remarks

KARACHI, Feb 24: Sindh Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazharul Haq has categorically denied news reports quoting him as having said: “No public sector university will be allowed to be set up in Hyderabad city”.

In a statement here on Sunday, the minister said that some news channels had tampered with his statement regarding establishing a university in Hyderabad. It appeared to be a conspiracy to harm the good relations between the Pakistan People’s Party andMuttahida Qaumi Movement, he said.

He said Hyderabad was his own city where his ancestors were buried. “Not one but many universities would be set up there,” he said.

He said legislation was ready in the Sindh Assembly for upgrading Sir Ziauddin and Baqai Medical Colleges and other medical colleges to the status of universities.

He advised the MQM leaders not to pay attention to such misleading reports because there was a dire need for harmony and peace in Sindh.—APP
