DUBAI, Feb 23: Former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, showing her best form for more than a year, beat her second champion in a row to reach the Dubai Open final here on Friday.
Kvitova, who ended the title defence of Agnieszka Radwanska on Thursday, beat the 2011 titleholder Caroline Wozniacki, breaking serve in the opening game and rarely looking back in a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Kvitova, 22, has yet to drop a set in Dubai, the world No 8 returning to form after failing to win more than two matches at any other tournament this year.
She will next play Sara Errani of Italy, who defeated her doubles partner Roberta Vinci 6-3, 6-3 in an all-Italian showdown.
Errani and Vinci are the world’s top-ranked doubles pair and good friends off the court, but put that aside on Friday.
Both players struggled to hold serve in a match with a total of 11 breaks, with Errani improving her head-to-head record to 5-2 against Vinci.—Agencies
