Muttahida activist gunned down

KARACHI, Feb 21: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was gunned down in the old city area of Ramswami on Thursday, police said.

They added that Mohammad Aslam, 30, was standing at a paan cabin on Dharamsi Wara Road, Ramsawmi, when armed men riding a motorcycle targeted him and fled.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he was pronounced dead, the police said.

The officials said that Aslam was associated with Unit 28 of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement organisational structure.

Following the killing, tension gripped the locality that kept reverberating with gunfire with intervals, leading to closure of shops and markets. The firing turned intense at night when two groups fighting a turf war in the old city area exchanged fire in Ramswami and Kharadar.

The police said that the area had been tense since late Wednesday night when the two groups had opened fire on each other.

Cobbler shot dead A cobbler was shot dead at his makeshift shop in Ferozeabad on Thursday, police said.  They added that armed men riding a motorcycle fired at Ebadat Khan, 30, and escaped.

The victim hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the police said.
