RAWALPINDI, Feb 20: The Japanese embassy in collaboration with Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Wednesday organised a week-long calendar exhibition to promote its culture.
Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi OE and Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division Imdadullah Bosal inaugurated the exhibition. A large number of the people belonging to all walks of life, besides diplomats, were present on the occasion.
The basic purpose of the exhibition was to create awareness among Pakistan society about Japanese culture through different categories of calendars as they are always helpful in illustrating the beauty, culture, traditions and lifestyle of Japan.
Ninety-five calendars, depicting Japans traditional and contemporary arts, sports, automobiles, nature, cultural heritage and architecture, showcased at the exhibition. A few calendars were meant for the children. The visitors took keen interest in the exhibition.
The Japanese ambassador Hiroshi OE said that the calendars were good messengers to introduce the huge variety of aspects of Japanese culture into different societies.
“A variety of Japanese calendars have been put on display in this exhibition which represent the beauty as well as the true image of Japan,” he said.
The ambassador stressed the need of promoting cooperation and strengthening cultural ties between Japan and Pakistan in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal said that diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Japan were unique and would be strengthened in future.
“The exhibition has been organised to highlight Japanese culture and development in the area and such events strengthen people-to-people contacts and best means to bring people of different regions closer,” he said.
RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed, speaking on the occasion, said besides promoting regional culture and art, the RAC equally focused on the introduction of foreign culture and the exhibition of Japanese calendars was an effort in this direction.
He thanked the Japanese embassy for organising the exhibition.
After the exhibition, all the calendars will be distributed to the lucky visitors through lottery by the Rawalpindi Arts Council.
The exhibition will continue till February 27.
