Mehran Highway second phase launched

KARACHI, Feb 19: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that the Mehran Highway is set to become an alternative route to the National Highway for industrialists and people.

He said this at a programme held at the Governor’s House on Tuesday to lay the foundation stone of the phase II of the nine-kilometre-long Mehran Highway.

He said that the highway was being constructed at a cost of over Rs557 million with Japanese assistance.

He said that earlier the Phase I of the highway was constructed at a cost of around Rs300 million.

The Consul General of Japan in Karachi, Akira Ouchi, Iranian deputy consul general Aghai Sehrai and others were also present at the ceremony.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed said that movement of goods to and from the export processing zone, etc, would be facilitated after completion of Phase II of the highway.

He said that work on the Zulfikarabad Oil Terminal was also in the final stage.
