Rehman meets Iranian President, agreed to set-up two more check posts

TEHRAN: Interior Minister Rehman Malik met with President of Iran, Mahmud Ahmedi Nejad and discussed matters of bilateral interests.

Taking to media persons after the meeting, Rehman Malik termed the meeting as “good” and said he conveyed to the Iranian President the greetings of President Asif Ali Zardari.

He said both Iran and Pakistan are two brotherly Muslim countries and appreciated Iran which has always supported Pakistan in hour of need.

He said Pakistan and Iran shares a long border as both the countries need to have joint efforts to combat issues at their borders.

Rehman Malik said in order to combat smuggling and to enhance trade between the two countries Iranian President has consented to set-up two more check posts and in this regard officials from both sides would meet in first week of March to finalise the modalities.

He said Iranian President expressed sympathies over the tragic terrorist incident in Quetta and said joint effort would help both the countries to eliminate menace of terrorism and extremism.

Minister for Postal Services, Sardar Omar Gorgage, who is also accompanying with Rehman Malik during the visit, was also present on the occasion.
