Violence claims six lives in Karachi

KARACHI: Six people were killed and seven others were injured in incidents of violence in different areas of Karachi, DawnNews reported on Friday.

One person was killed and a child was injured in a firing incident in the Baloch Goth area of Karachi’s Orangi Town.

A body, bearing marks of torture was found in Karachi’s Landhi No 4 area. The deceased was gunned down after being tortured.

In the Khokhrapar locality of Karachi’s Malir area, unknown assailants opened fire on a second-hand goods shop and injured four people, including one policeman. The injured were shifted to the Jinnah Hospital where one of the wounded succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Separately, one police officer was injured in a firing incident near the Jamatkhana in the city’s Kharadar area.

One man was injured in a firing incident in the Awami Colony locality of Karachi’s Korangi area.

Moreover, one person was killed when unknown gunmen opened fire in the city’s Ibrahim Hyderi area. Police said the incident occurred when the deceased attempted to resist during a robbery attempt.

Karachi’s Shershah scrap market remained closed on Friday in protest against the killing of the market association’s vice president, Shakeel Malik, and general secretary, Mohammad Iftikhar. The funeral prayers of the two office-bearers would take place today. No police was deployed in the area.
