KARACHI, Feb 9: Legal proceedings remained suspended at the subordinate judiciary on Saturday as lawyers observed a boycott in protest over the killing of their colleague.
The Karachi and Malir bar associations gave a strike call following the murder of Advocate Mian Mohammad Tariq, who had been gunned down in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Friday night.
The city courts and district courts in Malir wore a deserted look and hundreds of cases fixed for Saturday were simply deferred to next dates.
Undertrial prisoners were not brought to the courts due to the strike. However, police produced some suspects in courts for remand.
Lawyers took out a rally from the office of the Karachi Bar Association in the city courts and staged a sit-in on M. A. Jinnah Road against the killing. Work at the anti-terrorism courts and special courts was also badly disturbed because of the lawyers’ strike.
