ISLAMABAD, Feb 8: Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman on Friday directed the police to proceed in a land grabbing case registered against Malik Riaz, his son Ali Riaz and a local builder.

The court directed the police to implement an April 2012 civil court direction about maintaining status quo on the land.

In his application to the civil court, Zahid Hussain Raja had alleged that on April 19, 2012, the tycoon, his son and other associates occupied his 100 kanals in Phulgran village. The judge ordered maintenance of status quo on the land.

In December 2012, Zahid Hussain Raja filed a petition with IHC, alleging that Malik Riaz was developing a scheme on his land in violation of the restraining orders issued by the civil judge in April 2012.

On December 18, an FIR was registered against Malik Riaz, his son Ali Riaz and Dr Hafeez on IHC’s direction.

In his latest petition, Mr Raja contended that the respondents were building roads paying least attention to court orders .

Raja Rizwan Abbasi, the petitioner’s counsel, said invoking high court’s jurisdiction was necessary as the respondents did not take the lower court orders seriously.

Raja Inam Ameen Minhas, the tycoon’s counsel, told Dawn that the instant matter was pending before a civil court and the high court could not exercise its discretionary power in the case. —A Reporter
