ISLAMABAD reached 123-3 after Rawalpindi were all out for 362 in their first innings on the third day of their Eight Faysal Bank Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Friday.
The hosts had made 195-3 in 50 overs with Shoaib Ahmed Minhas and captain Babar Naeem at the crease on day two after Wednesday’s opening day was abandoned owing to wet conditions. The overnight batsmen both scored centuries with Shoaib making 147 and Babar 101.
Rao Iftikhar claimed 5-73 and his new-ball partner Nasrullah Khan took 4-87.
Lahore Shalimar, cashing in on half-centuries from Imran Butt (70), Umar Akmal (77) and skipper Kamran Akmal (53), earneda vital 169-run lead on the first innings against Lahore Ravi at the LCCA Ground in Lahore. Replying to the Ravians’ 153,Shalimar totalled 322 after resuming at 122-1.
Wahab Riaz, who took a career-best 9-59 (including a hat-trick) on Thursday, captured two more wickets as the Ravians went to stumps at 144-4 in their second innings.
Karachi Blues advanced to 133-4 in their second innings after being ahead by 64 on the first by virtue of bowling out Hyderabad for 141 at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
After Thursday’s blank first day, play finally began at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad where Sialkot, who were put into bat after the losing the toss, had collected 144-4 against Karachi Whites in the 45 overs of play possible.
After two days of inaction, a total of 17 overs were bowled in the Bottom Six Teams event fixture at the Gohati Cricket Ground in Swabi. In that brief period, Abbottabad managed to score 55 for two after Multan chose to field first upon winning the toss.
Peshawar moved to 322-7 against Quetta after resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 54-1 in the other lower division tie at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar. Nawaz Ahmed contributed 111, while Mohammad Rizwan hit an undefeated 69, Both teams by consent opted to forfeit their respective first innings.
