PESHAWAR, Feb 7: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has urged the federal government to review its decision regarding recovery of enhanced tax from the truck owners along with token tax through Finance Bill 2012.
In this connection, a meeting was held here on Thursday with Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Liaquat Shabab in the chair. The meeting discussed matters relating to the problems faced by goods transporters owing to increase in tax recovery by the federal government.
The meeting was also attended by Excise and Taxation Secretary Sajid Khan Jadoon, Excise and Taxation Director General Khushal Khan, Income Tax Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Hayat, Excise and Taxation ETO Liaquat Hayat, All Pakistan Goods Transport Truck Owners Association president Malik Khwaja Mohammad Mohmand and officers of the other departments concerned.
The meeting was informed about the enhancement of the tax and its repercussions on the tax recovery at provincial level. The participants of the meeting underlined the need for adopting a policy that didn’t affect the present pace of recovery. The minister suggested that a letter should be sent to the federal finance minister, requesting him to review the decision.
