Minister inspects desiltation

KOHAT, Jan 19: NWFP irrigation minister, Hafiz Akhtar Ali Khan, has stressed the need for a comprehensive network of canals in the province to make it self-sufficient in grain, fruit and vegetable production by utilising vast areas of barren land.

During a visit to Kandar, Drozki, Daudzai dams and Tanda barrage in Kohat and some canals in Hangu district on Sunday, he inspected the ongoing desiltation campaign and expressed his satisfaction over the pace and quality of work.

The irrigation officials briefed him about the construction of new canals for provision of water to Kharmatu.

He was informed that during the ongoing desilting campaign 52 miles of Tanda canal would be cleaned which would cost Rs1.58 million.

The minister in his brief address called upon the government officials to serve the masses with sincerity so that their problems could be solved.
