KARACHI, Feb 5: Unseeded Zeeshan Khan was stretched to limits before clinching a nail-biting 3-2 win over second seed Abdullah Bashir to capture the boys’ under-19 title at the third Rehana Nazar national junior squash championship at Rashidabad (Tando Allahyar) on Tuesday.
Zeeshan of PAF took 31 minutes to get past the only seeded survivor 10-12, 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 12-10 in the thrilling final. Other seeded players — top seed Abbas Shaukat, third seed Salman Hashim and fourth seed Hamza — were eliminated earlier.
The win helped Zeeshan earn a winning purse of Rs9,500 while Abdullah received runner-up prize of Rs6,500.
Besides, PAF players added under-17 and under-15 titles to their tally to dominate the boys’ category.
Top seed Ahsan Ayaz lived up to his billing while getting the better of second seed Mohammad Farhan 13-15, 11-6, 11-5, 13-11 in 67-minute duel to seize under-17 title.
The under-15 crown went to second seed Ali Karamat who whipped Sindh’s unseeded Hammas Ahmed Tarar 11-5, 4-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-6 in exact 40 minutes. The latter had sent top seed Faizan Khan packing earlier.
Amna Latif from Punjab and Meyral Sheikh from Sindh clinched girls’ under-19 and under-15 titles respectively.
AVM Mohammad Iqbal, AOC Southern Command, graced the prize distribution ceremony while AVM Farooq Habib, Commandant Air War College, was the guest of honour.
Earlier, fateha was offered at the demise of Dr Mohammad Ali Shah.
