KARACHI, Feb 2: A judicial magistrate allowed on Saturday the Federal Investigation Agency to grill the prime suspect in the Shahzeb murder case for one day at his detention facility in a case pertaining to his alleged escape from the country.

An FIA inspector appeared before a judicial magistrate (Malir) stating that a case was registered against Shahrukh Jatoi about his escape from the country despite his name on the exit control list a few days after the murder of Shahzeb.

He stated that an anti-terrorism court on Jan 30 granted permission to the FIA to take the custody of the suspect from the juvenile prison, where he was lodged on judicial remand.

The FIA official claimed that neither could they produce the suspect in court to seek his remand nor could they take the custody out of the juvenile prison due to security concerns.

However, he said that the suspect escaped from Karachi Airport on Dec 27 with forged documents and by using the boarding card of another person to Dubai. Someone from the immigration staff of the airport or some private persons might have helped the suspect in the escape, he added.

He requested the court to grant some time to the FIA to interrogate him on the premises of the juvenile prison.

Judicial Magistrate Hasan Ali Kalwar granted one-day time to the FIA to grill the suspect in the present case at the detention facility.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Cell of the FIA registered a case (FIR 26/13) against Shahrukh.
